Race Report: Florida Winter Tour --- 1-17 thru 1-20, 2008 from Homestead Miami Speedway, Miami, FL By: Walters Web Design (January 27th, 2008) -- The Florida Winter Tour seems to be one of the best run and organized events that Tyler has had the privaledge to run and how could you possibly complain about the weather!! A special thank you to the race director for letting the cadets race really hard without judgement calls to the finish as it should be. For a temporary parking lot track it was the best Tyler has had the oportunity to race on curbs barriers and lots of rubber hard to tell it was a parking lot. Tyler ran very strong thru Thrusday and Friday practice and rounded out the timed sessions on Friday in 3rd without drafting help by just a few thousandths of a second. This format uses the last 2 sessions Friday to align the grid positions for the rest of the weekend and eliminating the mad rush to the grid in hopes to get some clean laps and run with other drivers that are running compareable speeds in qualifying and practice. ( great idea ) Tyler was feeling confident going into Saturday and he qualified third and in tipical cadet fashion ran a very close 3rd in the prefinal and had his sites set on the final. The final was as usual for his class very close racing with the draft being a key factor Tyler would put himself in position to win in the closing laps leading taking the white flag and finishing 3rd losing the lead in the infield during the last lap scramble for the win. Sunday the weather turned around and brought rain and 25 to 30 deg cooler weather. Tyler always has fun running in the rain and after qualifying he started 3rd on the grid for the second day. The prefinal Tyler would have a good race for the lead in half wet and half dry conditions and put himself on the front row finishing a very tight 2nd as the front 2 pulled away from the field. The final was as usuall one of the most exiting races of the day with several lead changes almost every lap. Tyler would get shuffled back a few times during the short 12 lap final but within a lap would be back at the point leading. The finish was just as exiting as the day before with Tyler leading while taking the white flag Tyler would get shuffled back to 4th by turn 5 and coming out of turn 11 Tyler made a last chance run for the win by passing 3rd on the straight and going into turn 12 the 2 leaders would drift a little high and Tyler would actually be in the lead in the center of the turn basically 3 wide with out touching a wheel and then 4th made a bonzai run to the inside to make it 4 wide which would be the end of the race for Tyler, as he got taken out and would fail to finish. Tyler and team were disapointed by the results for weekend leading the closing laps and not producing wins. Tyler will go home and work harder and set his sites on victory in roung 2 of the Florida Winter Tour.
