Race Report: Shawano Stars at USA International Raceway August 4-5, 2007 Written By: Tyler Thomas Motorsports (October 3rd, 2007) -- Round 2 of the Stars East Series was full of excitement as usual with Tyler running pretty well on practice day but not nearly as well as we expected. Tyler and crew worked well into the night Friday on the kart and made lots of changes that paid off very well for Saturday's event. Tyler timed in 7th and ran an impressive race in the prefinal to win. Starting the final on the pole it was Tyler and a familiar rival checking out from the rest of the field with teammate Jacob Will hanging on close behind Tyler lead the whole race with 3 laps to go, there was an accident in turn 9 and 10 with paramedics called to the crash site, the race was still green as the white flag fell there was a local yellow in the corner where the accident was. Tyler left a little to much room in that corner on the last lap for the second place driver to squeeze by and make the pass for the win. Tyler tried to take up as much room as possible and lost to much momentum and the 3rd place driver made a pass on the last corner for Tyler had to settle for 3rd. He was still happy that his teammate finished second which made TopKart with 2 spots on the podium. Sunday looked to be just as good as Saturday. Tyler was very quick in practice with his new Woltjer engine and he was exited with the results. Qualifying was on wet tires with a fine mist covering the track and Tyler timed in 6th. The prefinal was a little bumpy as Tyler made contact with another kart and finished 12th in the prefinal .The final was very exiting and Tyler had an opportunity to come from the back to the front after getting bumped from behind going into turn 5 on lap 1, Tyler almost came to a complete stop and on lap 2 he was running 18th. Tyler worked his way through the field to 6th and at one point he was running down the leaders almost 1 second per lap bringing a few helpers with him, he finished 8th only 3 seconds back from the front pack of 5. Tyler was disappointed with the circumstances but was happy with the performance overall for the weekend. Tyler will go home and prepare for the next race in Moran for Stars West Round 2.
