Race Report: Tyler Thomas Motorsports April 13 thru 15 2007 at Norman Oklahoma Stars of Karting Written By: Tyler Thomas Motorsports (April 16th, 2007) -- Tyler has been looking forward to this opening round of the Stars Series due to the fact that Oklahoma Motorsports Complex is his home track on the Stars scheduale. With lots of off season testing there logging several hundred laps Tyler was very confident that he would have a shot for his first Stars victory. The weather seemed to be a replay from last year with cold and wet practice on Friday. Tyler would finish Friday practice in the top 5 on the speed charts in all day all wet conditions. Saturday would bring cold but sunny conditions and would fall right into Tyler’s advantage by the time qualifying would come around Saturday morning. Tyler set fast time by 4 tenths of a second whish is Tylers first Pole in the Stars series in the beginning of his second year. The format for the Race of the Americas is different from the rest of the season with the addition of heat races and qualifying points for grid positions for the final’s. Tyler would start from the pole in the first heat and win by a margin of almost 2 seconds ahead of a hard charging Sage Karem who had to start from the back of the heat due to a qualifying problem. The second heat Tyler also started from the pole and would also win by even a larger margin of almost 3 seconds. With a little luck in turn one that would give Tyler some advantage and again hard charging Sage Karem would work his way up to second. Sunday would bring perfect weather for racing and another day of good runs for Tyler. Final 1 Tyler earned the pole position from Saturdays heats and Tyler , Sage & Grant Vogal would put almost a whole front straight gap on the rest of the field so they could battle it out between the 3 of them. Tyler made his move for the win by drafting by Grant at the white flag and would be passed by Karem going into turn 5 followed by Vogal and Tyler and grant battling for second would give Sage a 2 kart gap for him to take the win with Tyler and Grant nearly side by side at the line with Grant taking 2nd and Tyler taking 3rd. Final 2 Tyler would again start from the pole position he earned from the day before this time Tyler and Sage would jump out to a pace that the rest of the field could not maintain to a head to head battle for the win between the two of them Tyler and Sage changed positions several time’s with the race winding down Tyler settles into second and tried to plan his attack on the cagey verteran Sage. With Sage protecting the race track that was his Tyler made several attempts to take the lead away but couldn’t make it with a clean pass and Tyler had to settle for second by .08 seconds. Tyler and Sage have gone head to head in every race that they have ran together this year and Tyler is looking forward to more of the same as he enjoys the competition and savey of racing a driver of Sages caliber. Tyler’s next race will be at South Bend Indiana for the WKA Mfr cup series round 2.
