Race Report: KART Mid America & Southern Sprint Series Race at JRP Speedway

Written By: Tyler Thomas Motorsports

(April 3rd, 2006) -- The combined race with the Northern and Southern KART Series in Tulsa, OK turned out to be a great event with over 100 entries in a single day event, the TKC crew did an outstanding job and they seem to be on track with being prepared for the 2006 KART Nationals in June. Tyler started out very strong on Saturday practice and was one of the quickest of the day in JR1. However, Saturday night a strong storm came through the Tulsa, OK area and brought rain and strong wind.

Sunday after the track dried it was quite a bit different from Saturday and with a few bad choices on the chassis tuning we lost some speed and did not seem to be able to get it back. In Qualifying, Tyler set fast time 29.63 and second place qualifier was Conner Isley with a 29.81. Tyler won the prefinal with about a 10 kart length lead while Isley and Baldus battled it out for 2nd. With lots of big changes to the chassis and not knowing for sure how it was going to work out, it worked out pretty good as after only 2 or 3 laps Tyler started to pull away from 2nd and 3rd place runners of Baldus and Isley. With 3 laps to go some lapped traffic changed the race, Tyler's lead closed to only 6 kart lengths and Baldus made a great pass to take over the 2nd place position. However, he would not have enough time to catch Thomas and he would go on to win the 6 race of seven for the 2006 season. The finishing order was Thomas, Baldus, Isley, and Letbetter. Tyler is looking forward to the KART Nationals at JRP and used this race weekend as good test session for the nationals.
