Race Report: Tag World Championships from New Castle, IN October 5th - 8th

(January 2nd, 2007) -- After a week off from our trip to Canada, Tyler would be trying to defend his title as the 2005 Tag World Champion in Tag Cadet. The first 2 days of practice were very good to Tyler as he was the quickest for most of the practice sessions. The first day of racing was very exiting with Tyler setting on the pole by .002 of a second in front of Tristen DeGrand. The heat race was a real nail biter with the front 3 karts running nose to tail without being able to get away from one another with the draft. Tristen made a mistake and Tyler and Jeremy Remick would pull away from the field with a commanding lead, Tyler would make a pass on the outside of the last turn on the last lap for the win in the heat race. The prefinal would show the consistency and skill that Tyler has by winning the prefinal by 8 seconds over second place.

The final was one of the most exiting races that we had seen all weekend Tyler and Tristen would pull away from 3rd place Jeremy Remick and battle to the end on their own. With Tyler being able to lead just about when he wanted he would fall back to second and wait for the opportunity to make a pass for the lead on the last lap. The draft is very critical at this track and Tyler couldn’t pull away from second by himself so he would just wait for the end of the race. With 2 laps to go the leader was running an “ S “ defensive race line down the last 2 straights. With Tyler being patient he would get a run on the leader coming onto the last long straight and he would have no choice except to go where the leader was not to easily draft past him. Tyler made his move and was forced to the outside with about ½ kart lead on the outside coming toward the last turn with an aggressive attempt to block Tyler when Tyler was already in front of the other kart by ½ of a kart the two tangled taking both drivers out of the race and Tyler had a violent crash that send him flipping into the hay bails at the end of the straight.

Luckily Tyler was ok, just disappointed, and shaken just a little. So the results were Tyler quickest in practice, Set fast time and received another fastime qualifying award, won his heat race, Showed dominance in the prefinal, Showing patience and skill beyond his years racing for the lead on the last turn of the last lap for another World Championship. Tyler will be back next year to attempt to win again in his last year in Tag cadet.
