Race Report: Stars of Karting from Toronto September 22nd - 24th

(January 2nd, 2007) -- Tyler has been looking forward to his first International race of his young career in Toronto, Canada. The Woodbine facility was just outside a very busy and beautiful horse racing track and casino. The Stars officials did a good job of creating a track that offered very tight racing and very few passing zones in the amount of space the temporary course had for track and pit space. The excitement started for Tyler early on the first day before practice with a live Canadian Television interview on a live morning news cast. Then we finally get down to business for the 5 practice sessions that were scheduled for the day. We were having a dose of tough luck with a crash late in practice that would limit Tyler’s practice to 4 sessions for the day. After working late that evening and with all of the repairs done to the chassis after the crash we were optimistic for the day of racing to follow.

The first day of racing was a different format than any other Stars race that we have ever attended. This time your qualifying order would be the order that you would start the 3 heat races and a total combined point system would be your starting position for the final on Sunday. Tyler qualified 9th in time trials and with a 7th, 11th, and 8th place finish in the qualifying races, he would start 9th in Sundays final. We were still having some trouble with the performance of our engine on Saturday, late that evening Jim Stroud with MiSi kart racing products, Tyler’s engine builder, found a problem with the carburetor.

Sunday was looking a lot better for Tyler after getting the engine running like it should, the chassis setup was off quite a bit. For the final, we took some chances and made some huge changes hoping that it would help Tyler get to the front. Tyler advanced from 9th up to 5th at one point early in the race and with the facility configured like it was, it was very physical, and hard to pass. Running 6th on the white flag lap, Tyler was making a pass for 5th and would be crowded into the barrier, Tyler would be knocked back to 11th coming for the white flag. Showing lots of talent and poise he made his way back to 9th for the finish in 1 lap. It was very exiting tight racing and Tyler was not satisfied but he was happy to go home with another top 10 finish in the Stars of Karting Series. Tyler's next race will be October 5th though 8th at The Tag World Championships where Tyler is the defending champion from 2005.
